Clean Water of Yarra River to Save Life! – Worldwide Cleanup Campaign
11.3.2012 – Clean Water of Yarra River
The waterways along the Yarra River area are of great environmental and cultural value to all Victorians and it is not too much to say water is life. Water quality is reduced when a considerable amount of litter finds its way from the streets through the storm water system into the Yarra River, causing negative impact on human quality of life.
Around 100 members from the World Mission Society Church of God cleaned up the litter along the river bank at Swan Street Bridge, Melbourne on 11 March (Sunday), to share Christ’s love with our local communities so everybody can stay healthy and happy. The Cleanup was held before the Church annual celebration of the New Covenant Passover established through Jesus’ blood with the promise of eternal life two thousand years ago.
Saints participated in the movement with their families, friends and neighbours, cleaning up over 40 bags of rubbish from along the river bank, cycle road, foot path, and surrounding public open space. Sarah Johnson who participated in the clean up for the first time really enjoyed it, saying, “I am really happy about it. People might think it is hard but when you do cleaning with lots of brothers and sisters, it is really lovely. And we can share Heavenly Mother’s love through it.”
A police officer who passed by during the cleanup complemented the good work saying, “I am very impressed with the work of the Church of God volunteers. The river looks terrific, everything looks good, and I am sure that the public appreciate what you have done!”
A resident was moved by the members’ enthusiasm, saying,“I think it is brilliant that people are taking their time out to do something good for others and volunteering for the environment, it is very generous.”
The cleanup was concluded successfully around 1pm with big smiles on everyone’s faces.
